Absolutely stunning Persian Kurd Salt bag or Namakdan (Persian for salt bag) covered in diamond lozenges within which lies stylised depictures of the sunbird, the mythical creature that guards the Gates of Paradise.
The beautifully woven hanging tassels are still evident on the shoulders of the salt bag.
The woollen face is woven in soumak technique and the back is in plain weave.
Very good condition for its age. From part of a private collection .
